Editorial Services
So you have an idea for a children's picture book or novel. Is your idea conceptually strong? Are your craft elements working well? From synopsis consultation and manuscript review to line and sentence-level editing, I offer a range of editing services. As a published children's book writer and illustrator and as an editor, I have been on both sides of the table. Depending on what you're looking for, my services include:
Concept Consultation:
You have the seed of an idea for a children's book but don't have a complete project yet... I will brainstorm and offer you practical, concise advice on how to strengthen your concept, discuss your pitch, and offer notes on content and presentation.
Manuscript Review:
I will review your manuscript and offer actionable feedback on plot, character, style, tone, voice and more. You will receive concise advice that you can use to refine and polish your manuscript.
Picture Book Editing:
I specialise in creating and editing picture books and love working with them. If you are an author-illustrator, in addition to reviewing your synopsis and/or manuscript, I can also evaluate the illustrations and offer art direction notes.
In addition to editing picture books, I also have experience with graphic non-fiction and other visually rich formats. I've also written teen fiction and YA. So no matter what your project or audience, I am happy to design a custom editing service depending on your needs. Get in touch here.
Workshops
I've done storytelling and activity-based sessions using my books and work for toddlers and younger audience and creative writing and narrative development workshops for young adults and undergraduate students.
If you're interested in having me do a workshop at your school, library, bookstore, or organisation, please get in touch with me using my contact page.
Teaching & Mentorship
I've been invited to give guest lectures on creative narrative development and writing and illustrating for children and have taught undergraduate and postgraduate students.
I have created and executed intensive workshops on writing, illustration and creative non-fiction, focusing on visual-verbal dynamics as well as narrative development: conceptualisation (strong central idea), sequencing (arc and build-up), macro and micro perspectives, and working with briefs.
I particularly love working with students, but welcome invitations and opportunities to collaborate with organisations using storytelling and narrative as creative pedagogies in other contexts. Want to know more? Do write in.
